Berend van Deelen received his master's degree from the Radboud University Nijmegen. Together with Roy ten Berge he is co-founder of the Studenten Bigband Nijmegen. With a huge passion for music and unbelievable commitment he stands in front of the band to bring his musical ideas to the musicians. He also arranges and composes part of the music himself.

This musical all-rounder is not only active with the SBBN. His musical resume also includes his experience as a bassist and board member of the NSJO (the Dutch Student Jazz Orchestra). He is also the bassist of the small-big band "Start Spreading the News". Berend has already arranged several pieces for these orchestras. Besides being a founding member of SBBN, Berend spent a year on the board of CongAC, the study association of Artificial Intelligence, and was involved in the founding of Kompanio.
